SPRINGFIELD, TENN. — Industry veteran Scott Morton has joined TBG—The Buying Giant as marketing and recruiting director, a new position for the furniture–focused buying group.
Morton is taking lead organizational and administrative responsibilities for the group, succeeding former Executive Director Bethel Poston, who has retired.
A Tennessee manufacturers’ sales representative for more than 40 years, Morton is a past state president and dean of International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn., and he is also the founder of the former Tunica, Miss., and Louisville, Ky., furniture markets.
“Morton’s knowledge of the industry and incredible number of personal relationships was exactly what we were looking for,” said Ken Blackmon, TBG president and owner of Blackmon Furniture in El Dorado, Ark.,
In taking on the new role, Morton said he has some big shoes to fill in Poston’s absence. Among other things, he plans to add key supporting manufacturers to what he called an already strong lineup of vendor partners that includes Ashley, Affordable Furniture, Kith Furniture, W. Silver Products and Jamison. “New manufacturers, increased store membership, and more profitable programs are in the near future,” Morton said.
Founded in 1987, the member-owned TBG has about 50 member companies with about 60 stores in 14 states.
